about
The lyrics were written by Dominc O'Neill and they were inspired by a poem called 'Antagonish' by William Hughes Mearns. It revolves around the idea of living with your ghost/past lover.
- In terms of the sound of the track, one of the coolest things for me was watching Meilana Gillard riff the saxophone solos from scratch in the recording studios. She's incredible, and the track is infinitely better for having that creative improvisation throughout. I smile every time I hear it
lyrics
Nobody lay down beside me
When I woke she wasn’t there
Nobody whispered she loved me
The words just faded to air
(Never) Held you, said you, saved me
(Did I) Dream you, lose you, make you
(Could I) Find you, prove you, fail me
Or did nobody…no-no-no nobody
(Did nobody dream me?…)
Nobody told me she’d leave me
When I got home she was gone
Beside the mirror no letter,
But my reflection was wrong.
(Never) Held you, said you, saved me
(Did I) Dream you, lose you, make you
(Could I) Find you, prove you, fail me
Or did nobody…no-no-no nobody
(Did nobody dream me?…)
Nobody gave me a memory
I tied it up in my heart
And now nobody can’t leave me
Nobody tore me apart.
(So I) Held you, said you, saved me
(Did I) Dream you, lose you, make you
(Could I) Find you, prove you, fail me
Or did nobody…no-no-no nobody
(Did nobody dream me?…)
